Steel Toe Boots For Women

The times have changed so now we have women as welders too which means that they also need protection a steel toe boot can give. The internet offers a lot of steel boot choices that women can choose from, but it might get confusing. It would be best if you can read up on some reviews about certain boots before you purchase them. Welding involves a lot of risks – both in health and in safety. It is important for a welder to have the complete Personal Protective Equipment whenever he or she steps into the welding area, and just because your feet is at the farthest point, doesn’t mean that it’s okay to leave it unprotected. Here are some boots that women welders might be interested in purchasing!

When it comes to online shopping, one can never go wrong with choosing to shop from Amazon.

It looks like a normal shiny leather boot, but it actually has an added protection in the form of a steel toe cap to keep harm away from your feet. You can purchase this boot at only 59.99 US DOLLARS to 160.00 US DOLLARS. It is also available in colors of cherry red, purple, and white.

You might be familiar with the Dr. Martens brand for their boots and their shoes have somehow become icons, that have been recognized worldwide for their uncompromising looks, durability, and comfort. The boot is oil and fat resistant and tough as well. It offers a good abrasion and slip resistance that’s good to use in the welding area. The shaft measures approximately 12″ from the arch. This is an original polyvinyl chloride sole that is air cushioned at the same time.

Here is a customer’s review about it:

“I bought these to replace an identical pair that I’ve been wearing for ten years. I got the old ones in London, and they were made in England. This new pair was made in China. They have changed…some for the good and some for the bad. There is now more toe room, which I like. However, both heel pads were ill fitted and loose. I had to trim them and stick them back in with super glue. I’m starting to really break them in now and I think I’ll love them for years to come. They provide good ankle support and keep my feet warm. Buyer beware that these boots come very very stiff, and will take time to break in. When I first get them, I just wear them around the house occasionally until I can actually wear them out for a bit. If you try to wear them too long when you first get them, they will most definitely wear blisters on your feet. Break them in slowly and you’ll have a wonderfully comfortable pair of boots to last a long time.” – B. Kemp

This boot was given an average rating of 3.9 stars out of 5 stars.

You can purchase this boot for only 78.10 to 132.29 US DOLLARS, and if you purchase this from Amazon, you will get free returns. The boot is made from leather with a tough thick rubber sole. The shaft measures approximately 4.5″ from the arch, and the boot opening measures approximately 9″ around. This steel toe work boot which comes in  three blocked tones features a rugged D-ring lacing hardware and embroidered logos. The cushioning of this boot is OrthoLife odor-resistant. No need to worry about getting smelly feet.

  • Waterproof
  • Electrical hazard protection

Here is a customer’s review about it:

“I HAVE to wear steel toe boots for my job, and let me tell you, these are the MOST comfortable shoes!!!!! Ladies if you’re looking for steel toe shoes look no further! I know that most women’s steel toes are heavy, granted yes steel toes are going to be heavier, but these aren’t insanely heavy. I’ve owned some insanely heavy steel toe boots. I don’t have wide feet I have narrow feet, so it’s not due to extra shoe. These shoes are cut for a woman’s feet, unlike so many other steel toes “made” for women. Other steel toes that I’ve worn made me feel like I wasn’t wearing shoes but more of a box on each foot. The ONLY thing that could be better about these boots is the bottom could be a little thicker under the balls of your feet. Other than that these boots have lasted me forever and still haven’t fallen apart!!!!” – punkgoth_vixen

This boot has been given a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5 stars.

Steel Toe Boots External Metatarsal Guard

Today we are going to be exploring more about steel toe boots that come with external metatarsal guard as an additional protection for your feet. Welding is a risky business. Welders, and even non welders, know that there’s a lot of risk involved if you get into the welding zone. Both healthy and safety risks. That’s why it is important for a welder to have the complete PPE or Personal Protective Equipment when he or she is in the field. One of the said PPE is the boot. The most popular safety boot is the one with the steel toe protection, but now, there’s an even better boot that comes with an added protection. Let’s take a look at some of the said boots below:

  • Rocky Men’s Elements 6″ Steel Toe Met-Guard Boot

The original price of this boot was at 279.99 US DOLLARS, but you can purchase it for only 152.66 to 189.99 US DOLLARS at Amazon. Lucky for you, this product has been included on the sale happening at Amazon so you can purchase this item at the lower price available. Here is an image of it:

The boot is made from genuine leather with a lug sole. Once you have worn these boots from Rocky, you will never have to worry about being bogged down. The boot comes with a handsome looking lace-up as a part of the Rocky Elements Steel Collection. This boots will help you tread over mucky conditions. As I said, this boot comes with a larger scope of protection thanks to the added metatarsal guard. The boot still has the protective steel toe and it comes with an electrical hazard protection.

Here is a customer’s review about it:

“My boyfriend loves these boots! He found them very protective and comfortable!” – Jenclark82

Currently, the boot has been given a rating of 5 stars over 5 stars.

You can purchase this boot for only 153.22 to 179.99 US DOLLARS. This product is also part of the sale that’s currently happening at Amazon that allows you to purchase selected items at the lower price available on the options provided. You’ve probably heard of Michelin before right? It’s quite a popular brand!

Here is an image of it:

The boot is made from leather, but it doesn’t really look leathery right? The boot has been constructed Strobel style. What do we mean when we say this? It means that the insole is stitched to the upper using an over lock, chain stitch seam. The sole unit will then be applied with the use of glue or injection molding. This allows for a flexible footwear but a less robust one.

Thanks to it’s steel toe protection and it’s external metatarsal protection, this boot is now able to give it’s wearer an enhanced safety toe protection. The boot is also shock absorbent with a high cushioned midsole so you can expect less pain and shocks from impact while you are wearing this boot.

Here is a customer’s review about the boot:

“I tear through at least two pairs of work boots a year. My last pair was Cat and they only lasted 3 months. These boots are comfortable. The inserts provide decent padding and arch support. They don’t hurt my feet or ankles like other high tops dway more water resistant than Cat boots. The added steel plate makes me confident when moving heavy objects. I like that the top plate deflects slag and plasma when I am welding or lancing metal. The treads on the bottom are awesome! They provide excellent traction and don’t get clogged with mud. I realized how well they kick mud when I went to the grocery store after tromping in the mud all day and left a trail of mud chunks behind me. Sorry floor sweeper guy! Great work boot overall. The only negative thing is when kneeling or squatting down the metal plate pushes on the top of my foot making that position a bit uncomfortable.” – Team Wiapio Valley

The boot has been given an average rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.

“This hood is fantastic. I bought this thing 7 months ago just as a temporary hood to get me through trade school til I could save up the money for a 3350, but I’ve yet to replace it. I’ve been using this hood almost every day since I bought it, and I’ve not been very gentle with it. It’s held up to hours on hours of grinding, cutting, air gouging, and welding. I drop it very frequently and, no damage to the shell. The clarity is super awesome, so long as your lens isn’t burnt to a crisp. It’s even got the same batteries in it that it came with. I’ve never been flashed with this hood. I’m very satisfied that I got this instead of a hardware store special. Highly recommend.” – Carrie L.

The average rating that this helmet got is a 4.9 stars out of 5 stars. No one rated it below 4 stars.

The original price of this helmet was at 133.50 US DOLLARS, but you can purchase it for 112.17 US DOLLARS and with a free shipping. The variable shade of this helmet is at 9 to 13 welding helmet. “Excellent hood. Ive had this for about 2 weeks now and so far its perfect. Been using mostly for tig. Its super light and feels nice and sturdy. I love the design and American print and so does everyone else it seems.

The auto-darkening lens works perfectly so far and has good visibility range. Although a simple helmet its all I need and it works perfect.

My only con is that I dont want to damage a nice helmet like this.”  – Lonestar Apollo

The average rating that this helmet received is at 4.3 stars out of 5 stars.

There was one customer who gave it a one star rating and this is her comment about the helmet:

“I have no idea yet if this is a good product or not. I haven’t had the chance to use it yet. What I do know is that Lincoln is an American company so I was hoping the helmet was American made. I was wrong. I am so tired of buying all my American flag items from China! They do not specify in the product description and when I asked I believe they purposefully didn’t answer.” – Jessica L. Now, let’s take a look at some of their auto darkening welding helmet. Maybe you will find something that you like.

  • Jackson Safety W40 Insight Variable Auto Darkening Welding Helmet, HaloXHere is a photo of the helmet:

It looks simple but it is a tough welding helmet. You can bring it home for only 139 US Dollars, and the best thing is that you will get a free shipping.  This helmet has been equipped with quality lens that will give you a variable shade between 9 to 13, with a large viewing area of 3.93″ x 2.36″. It also has sensitivity and delay adjustments and four independent auto dimming sensors.  For sure, this helmet will give you the compliance that you are looking for since it has met the ANSI Z87.1 + 2010 standards and it is also a CSA compliant.

The auto darkening filter of this helmet will allow welders to adapt to various working environments by controlling the shade of the lens that comes with the help of the adjustments for sensitivity from ambient lighting sources.

While having such a high tech control on a helmet will usually come for a price, this helmet comes with a great value instead.

Here is a customer’s  review about it:

“As a relative beginner, I have started out my welding using a very cheap auto-darkening helmet (by Northern Tools). I thought, “helmets are helmets”, but having the opportunity to use a much higher-end helmet such as this one, I must say I am extremely impressed. Not a single adjustment was needed during an entire session in the workshop. I showed the helmet to some fellow artists and they all wanted to try it. The helmets provided by the workshop weren’t even auto-darkening, so I brought both helmets to loan my other one to one of the other students.

Long story short, everyone took note of the brand and told me they were going to get one too.

Here are some impressions I had while using the helmet:

    – Light yet high quality construction.
    – Excellent fit and comfort even after long session.
    – Separate modes for Grinding and Welding
    – Adaptive darkening offered superb clarity in all light levels at all times.
    – Wide viewing angle

    – Costs several times more than other variable auto-darkening helmets.
    – Digital controls had a slight learning curve.”

On average, this welding helmet was rated with 4.7 stars out of 5 stars. That just shows that a lot of people enjoy this helmet a lot. No one gave it a rating of only 1 or 2 stars.

  • Jackson Safety TrueSight II Digital Auto Darkening Welding Helmet with Balder Technology (29371)Admittedly, this helmet is a little expensive compared to the first one. Is it really worth it’s price? Here are some pictures of the said helmet:

The price of this helmet was once at 420.24 US Dollars, but with Amazon, the price has been reduced to 343.15 US Dollars and it already comes with free shipping. You will be able to save 77.09 US Dollars on this welding helmet. Is it good though? This helmet has a large viewing area of 3.25″ x 4″ and it has been considered best when it comes to class optical classification of 1/1/1/1. The helmet also comes with a built-in magnifying lens holder that is available with 7 focal powers. Additional lenses are sold separately.

This auto darkening welding mask has a digital keypad that has been designed by welders to be used by welders. With this keypad, you will be able to efficiently see what you need. The auto dimming hood features variable shade from 5 to 8 and 9 to 13. It is also something of a 3-in1 products with weld, grind, and torch modes. You will be able to make digital selections even with a gloved hand.

This helmet also meets the ANSi Z87.1-2010 and is a CSA Z94.3 compliant.

Here is a customer’s review about it:

“Man you don’t know what a good lid is until you have tried this one. It is a bit front heavy and the shell has some flex in it but the benefits outweigh these by a bunch. The view is huge. I think there may be only one other lid that has a view bigger than this one but this lid has an amber bypass filter. When not darkened it allows in more light which lets me see my material and fit-ups better. Color isn’t as distorted and when welding the puddle is easier to see. It has grind, torch and weld modes with plenty of configurability. It takes standard AAA batteries so if it gets low on batteries it is a simple swap out. It has solar cells to help prolong the battery life. 4 sensitive sensors keep the lid in sight of the arc even when welding out of position and with low amperage tig welding. I really like this lid.” – F. G

The average rating that this helmet received is at 4.8 stars out of 5 stars. No one rated this helmet with 3 stars and below. Not one.

Why Do Welders Have To Wear Protection

Why do welders have to wear protection? It may not come as a surprise to you but there are different types of risks (especially to a welder’s health) involved while you are welding. For this simple reason, welders are required to wear what we call as PPE or that’s Personal Protective Equipment. In a job or a career, our greatest investment is our body because it we are sick or injured, we can’t do our work. If you are injured, you may have to take time off from welding until you get better, or worse, you have to stop welding and find some other career choice.

blah blah

Let’s talk about the risks that a welder faces every day! First, we have ELECTRIC SHOCK. Since welding involves using electricity, welders have to be careful all the time not to electrocute themselves accidentally. This is one of the most serious and immediate risks that a welder must face. Electric shock can lead to severe injuries or worse, death. You can get electrocuted when you mindlessly touch two metal objects that have a voltage between them, which is sort of the same as inserting yourself into the electrical circuit. Note that the higher the voltage, the higher the current, and thus, the higher your risk for electric shock. Even a shock of 50 volts or less is enough to seriously injure or kill an operator. Watch out for alternating current. This type of current is more likely to stop the heart and makes the person holding the wire unable to let go.

To combat this, you will need dry gloves in good condition. Please avoid touching the electrode or metal parts of the electrode holders with skin or wet clothing. Don’t forget to insulate yourself from the work and ground. Don’t forget to inspect the electrode holder for damage before yo begin to weld. It would also help if you keep the welding cable and electrode holder insulation in good condition because the plastic or fiber insulation on the electrode may prevent contact with the electrically hot metal parts inside. Replace damaged insulation before using.

Second, we have the danger form inhaling the fumes and gases. Most welding fumes contain potentially harmful complex metal oxide compounds from consumables, base metal and the base metal coatings. Keep in mind that you should always minimize inhaling the fumes as much as you can. Check if your welding area has enough ventilation for the fumes to exit and for fresh air to enter. If your area doesn’t have one, it may be the right time to invest in a ventilation system so that you can remove fumes and gases from the welding area. You can also choose a welding helmet that has an air filter so that it will help in filtering the air that you are inhaling.

But fumes aren’t the only thing that your helmet can protect you from. Helmets are very good in protecting your eyes from the bright blinding light caused by the welding arc. So when purchasing a welding helmet, make sure that you have the right shade lens for your welding process. Most welding helmets come with a manual so take time to read it. The common procedure for this would be that you should start with a dark filter lens and then gradually change it to a lighter shade until you have reached a good visibility at the puddle and weld joint that is comfortable and not irritating to the eyes. There is this condition called the welder’s flash which is characterized by extreme discomfort in your eyes, swelling or temporary blindness. Wear a helmet.

The three risks we’ve mentioned are very important and dangerous risks that you should learn how to protect yourself from. Don’t take the health risks lightly. Your body is really important and you should take good care of it.

Welding Tips For Beginners

If you are new to welding, you might need to read up on our welding tips for beginners before you start learning the challenging parts. Welding is an art in my opinion. It allows humans to create and fix things which makes them even more beautiful and functional. According to to Merriam-Webster, welding is the process of joining pieces of metal together by heating them (usually around the edges) until they will begin to melt and them you press them together. Another definition from the same dictionary would be to make a connection by welding pieces of metal. So welding makes two things one to make it simple. What are the basic things that you should know before welding?

Keep in mind that you are much more important that any welding material you have or the company you are working for has so you have to look out for yourself. Materials or equipment can be easily replaced, but you or any part of your body won’t be so you have to be careful. Take this advice seriously! Your safety is always first. You are probably aware that there are things that we call as PPE or that’s Personal Protective Equipment. Understandably it is equipment that protects you. Before going in to the welding area, be sure that you have all the PPE necessary and that they are functioning as they should be. You should have the helmet (most welders go for an automatic darkening helmet) that will be able to protect you from the bright light caused by the welding arc, fumes, and radiation that is being emitted. Next, you should have a protection for your upper body. I am referring to a jacket (non-flammable) and if the said jacket isn’t long sleeves, you might want to invest in arm sleeves. You might also want to get yourself some gloves. Leather gloves is great. Of course, let us not forget your lower body – you should be wearing jeans or pants that won’t be easily burned by sparks. Finally, you have to get boots. Most go for steel-toed boots or those with metatarsal guards.

Take note that there are some insurances that won’t give you a reimbursement or a coverage if you were lacking a PPE when the injury happened.

Of course, you also have to be able to know what your machines can or can’t do. Most machines come with a manual that you can read and study before jumping head first into it. I won’t advice you to start welding when you have no basic knowledge on how the machines work. You might accidentally injure yourself or you will just be wasting materials. Listen, you won’t need to purchase the best and most expensive machine to get the most out of your welding experience but you will have to buy one of good quality because you will want that machine to last.

You may also want to learn more about the different welding processes. Yes, there are different welding processes that use different voltages of power and different techniques in doing them. Some processes are better used for a different type of material so if you want to have the best results, you must learn what process you should use on what material. You should also learn basic skills like how to strike an arc and other basic welding techniques before you begin.

Now that you are safe and know the basic when it comes to welding, you can now begin practicing! Don’t forget to clean your material before you start welding. Ladies Welding Boots

Are you looking for some ladies welding boot? Welding is a male dominated working environment which could give you a challenging time of trying to look for welding boots for a woman. Should you settle on wearing a man’s boots? Of course not. The choices may not be as many compared to welding boots for men, but there are some really top quality welding boots that you can choose from. Let’s take a look at Amazon since it’s a very convenient place to shop at. Online shopping is all at rage now! You can do it at work or home, or at any place really as long as you can connect to the internet. Plus, you can have it shipped to your doorstep too. It’s like giving a gift to yourself.

Now, here are a couple of great looking choices from Amazon.

The original price of this boot was at 144.99 US DOLLARS, but from Amazon, you can get it for only 53.19-72.00 US DOLLARS. That’s a great deal, right? Here is an image of the boot.

The color is a unique oak. Work boots are meant to protect you and this boot is very equipped to do so. Take a look at that thick rubber sole. Nothing will sharp will be getting through that. The shaft of this boot measures approximately 5.5″ from the arch, while the heel measures approximately 1.5″, and lastly the platform measures approximately 1″. The boot has been insulated for 200 grams. It also helps keep your feet odor free. You know how germs and moisture are the perfect combination for smelly feet right? Well, with this boot smelly feet won’t be able to get passed you with it’s antimicrobial lining. And the moisture? The boot is waterproof so there is no way that your socks or feet will be getting soaked.

Here is a customer’s honest review of the boot:

“These are one of the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned and I’ve been wearing boots for 30 years. I walk on concrete floors all day and these are really cushiony. The only thing negative I have to say about them, is their style. It’s a little on the Jethro side, but they’re so comfortable, I wear them anyway. They have held up well to getting wet and dirty, they clean easily with a sponge. And they keep my feet warm, another plus. I highly recommend these if you’re on your feet for 8-10 hours a day walking on concrete.”

The average rating that this boot received is at 4.6 stars out of 5 stars.

Here is another great product from Caterpillar. You can purchase this boot at Amazon for only 131.76 – 150.00 US DOLLARS. You will also be getting free returns on some sizes and colors.

Here is a picture of the boot:

The boot is made from leather so you know that it is sturdy and will not be easily punctured. The boot has a great rubber sole (that is also thick if you can take a look at the photo). If you are stepping on slippery places, there’s no need to worry because the boot is slip-resistant, and I also have to mention that it is also electric resistant.

With this boot, you will feel that you can do anything.

Here is a customer’s honest review about it:

“To be expected, must be broken in. Wore them for one day only partially laced and ankles were bruised for a few days. Couldn’t wear again for a week, but when I could it was fine to lace them up all the way. By the third or fourth time, it was much more bearable and I should soon be able to wear them every day.” – Izzy G.

On average, this boot was given a rating of 4.7 stars out of 5 stars.

Name: Rhino Auto Darkening Hood Solar Combo “Black Vader”

Price: 249.00 US DOLLARS

Owners: Rhino Welding Helmets

Overall Rank: 10 out of 10

Rhino Auto Darkening Solar Combo, Product Overview

Say hello to Rhino’s Auto Darkening helmet with the solar combo!

This is a helmet that has gained a lot of talk and attention. They call this type as the “Black Vader”. It kind of does make you look a bit like Darth Vader! Any Star Wars fan out there? Aside from the fact that the helmet is really cool looking (Welding in style anyone?), the viewing lens of this helmet is also OVER-SIZED. The price of this helmet may be a little expensive than others, but one can easily save for it and I’m sure that you will realize that the helmet pays for itself in the future. The battery is a combo meaning it is a combination between being powered by the sun and/or electricity. In some ways the helmet is also capable of offering the wearer some sort of protection against sparks, burns, and even unwanted rays that can cause damage to the human body.

The Good and The Bad

The Good:

Take a good look at the photo again! The helmet has 10.4 square inches of LCD Auto Darkening viewing area! That is almost the double the size of a standard viewing window! Most helmets only have their viewing windows at around four to six square inches. With an over-sized lens, you will be able to see more things and work even more productively because nothing is blocking your sight. And just like Darth Vader, you will also have some sort of air filter. You see in welding, you will be encountering a lot of dangerous or poisonous fumes that you need to keep out of your lungs so it’s great to see a helmet solve that problem for you!

When it comes to pricing, the great quality for professionals is priced for everyone (who can save for it) at two hundred and forty nine ($249.00) US Dollars! And it comes with a warranty that is valid for 2 years. Sadly, I can’t really check out the price of this helmet at Amazon right now since it is not available at Amazon. And more bad news is that Amazon has no idea when the item will be back in stock. Crossing my fingers that it will be soon though!

The Bad:

Even if the company says that the helmet is priced for everyone, it is still a little expensive compared to most. And it’s not available at Amazon!

Who is the Rhino Auto Darkening Welding Helmet for?

This is great for those people who are into welding and want an equipment that they can clearly depend on. In fact, here are some more information about the welding helmet that you might find useful.

Let us move our focus to the specific features of the helmet. The light state of this helmet is at number 4 (DIN 4), while the dark state is adjustable at number 9 to number 13. If you can take a little time to go back up to the photo, you will notice the adjustment knob for this at the exterior part of the helmet. Yes, that one, below the rhinoceros. The reaction time of this helmet is at 1/25,000 second. The delay time of of this helmet is adjustable from 0.15 seconds until 0.80 seconds. You will see the adjustment dial for this inside the helmet, above the lens. Here is a quick photo below:

You may notice that there are two adjustment knobs, and that other one is for the sensitivity of the helmet. Since the helmet comes with batter combo – meaning that it is both solar powered and battery powered, you will expect to see a low battery indicator light inside the helmet, above the lens. Take a look back at the photo. You will never miss this because you will see it blinking while you are wearing the helmet. Keep in mind that the minimum lifetime of the helmet is for 5000 welding hours. I also must mention that the LCD lens of this welding helmet is where you will find the solar panel.

This helmet is recommended for welding processes and max weld amps like stick welding, MIG welding, and Flux Cored up to 300 amps. You can also use this for TIG but note that the amps should only be between 5 to 250 amps.  For your peace of mind, the helmet has been able to meet the safety standard of ANSI Z87.1-2003, DIN/CSA/TUV/CE standards. The lens of this welding helmet will also be able to protect you against a hundred percent ultraviolet rays and also from infrared and radiation.

Here are a couple of reviews from people who managed to purchase it:

“Fantastic! Bought as a birthday present, son loves it. this product does everything that its suppose to. Would buy again without hesitation.” – Stephen Coles

“I have purchased 2 of these bad boys now… the first was crushed by a truck (darn the luck!) Yet had it been a 4-5 hundred dollar mask?. Would have been worse. The price on these are right on target. They work very well especially if you wear bi-focals. The extra space is wonderful… This helmet is now my “Standard Issue” WONDERFUL!” – Larry Holter

Been waiting to write this review until I put this helmet through it rounds. After about 4 months of daily use including stick in all positions and mig. I have to say this hood is an absolute steal for its price. Large screen, great response time it’s really met all my demands. Only small problem I’ve had was with the headband not being comfortable but it’s an easy fix with a 5 dollar aftermarket band.” – Jay Hazelwood

Rhino Auto Darkening Helmet Price

As I said above the helmet is being sold at 249.00 US DOLLARS, but sadly it isn’t available at Amazon right now. Maybe you can check out other shopping websites like eBay.

My Final Opinion of Rhino Auto Darkening Welding Helmet Solar Combo

Overall I think this case is really worth it’s price! It’s so obvious that the helmet is well made and that it was carefully crafted to make sure it will meet the needs of the welder who is using it. Wouldn’t you want a helmet that fits well with all your needs? The lens are wide and you also have all sorts of protection starting from air filter to shielding you against dangerous UV rays.
