For this week’s first product review, we are going to start with Ariat Men’s Work-Hog Waterproof Composite Toe Work Boots. If you have noticed, most of the boots we have previously reviewed are steel toed. What makes the steel toe caps different from the composite caps? Which one is better? Which one is cheaper? Which one should you get? Don’t worry, by the end of this article, we will have all those questions lurking in your mind answered.
Let us get to know the two protective caps first. I’m sure that most of you are familiar with the steel toe caps. They have been around for quite some times, and are considered a classic. Basically, it is a touch piece of steel that protects your feet in case something heavy drops on top of it to prevent the squishing of your bones. Now, composite toe are new to many but a few have already heard of them I’m sure. Composite caps contain no metal. They are made from a combination of plastic, carbon fibre, and rubbers.
According to Workbootcritic, here are some of the Pros and Cons that they have listed down about the two:
STEEL TOE CAPS:
- Puncture protection
- Shatter proof
- Costs less
- Weighs more
- Poor insulation in cold climates
- Sets off metal detectors
COMPOSITE TOE CAPS:
- Better electrical resistance
- Doesn’t set off metal detectors
- Great insulation in cold climates
- Puncture protection is not consider as great as that of a steel toe cap
- More expensive
So what do you think? Which one appeals to you more? It seems that they are both equal to each other. They have their differences and weaknesses, and I guess it all goes back to what you need from a boot. Or in what type of environment you work in. If you work in a cold climate, then a composite toe boot is better for you. If you have to pass through metal detectors daily, like in airports, you will most likely sway to composite toe boots. I think steel toe boots are reserved for more dangerous environments like construction sites or buildings that collapsed. So if you are looking for a composite capped boot, we have one here for you today.
Ariat men’s work-hog waterproof composite toe work boots could be the one you are looking for. Ariat is or was a brand that was focused on equestrian athletes but of course, their boots proved to be fitting for outdoors workers like welders as well that it became famous among workers. It increased their sales, of course. Here is an image of the said boot:
The starting price of this boot is at 149.99 US DOLLARS to 237.99 US DOLLARS. You can easily get this boot from Amazon. Have you heard of that online shop? A lot of people (even those who don’t live in the US) patronize the company since their prices are usually cheaper compared to other retail shops, but the quality is still the same. You will like the sole of this boot since it is made from DurathreadTM sole. It is stronger than your normal thread. The shaft of the boot measures approximately 10 inches from the arch. You can be sure that the boot is made from premium full grain leather for the foot and upper part. 😉 Plus this boot is a pull-on style which is easier and less hassle for you. No need to lace up! You just slip your feet in and you are good to go.
