There’s a fun quote that has been around for quite a while that says, “With the right shoes, I can conquer the world.” And it’s true. Wearing the right shoes for the right occasion will be of great help to you. When it comes to welding, I guess it would be normal to think that getting tough sturdy shoes is not really a priority because a welder would mostly make use of his or her hands. It would be rational for a person to put more importance in buying gloves and a helmet. However, that is not really an acceptable reason to forget or set aside the importance of having sturdy shoes. After all, it is still an added protection for you.
So what exactly will you look for when you go shoe shopping? I think in this case you should definitely consider shoes which are tough and comfortable at the same time. Why would your chosen shoes have to be tough? In welding there are a lot of risks involved, and your feet being far from the welding activity doesn’t mean that nothing bad could happen to it. I’m not saying that I want something bad to happen to your feet; I just want you to be aware of it and do something to prevent it. Since you’ll mostly be welding in a work shop or a place with a lot of iron debris, it certainly won’t hurt if you protect your feet from stepping on them and giving you tetanus. In an event that something heavy get knocked off it’s place and drops straight to your foot, then you’ll need a shoe that absorbs the blow from the impact, lessening the harm to your foot.
Secondly, it doesn’t matter weather you are a newbie or an old school expert, you will be doing a lot of standing. If your shoe doesn’t fit right, this could cause unnecessary and avoidable blisters. It is also important to find a “breathable” shoe so your feet won’t feel too stuffy and they won’t start to gather bad odor. With that being said, here are a few selected boots I would recommend for you.
I understand that you may not like my selection, since we all have different preferences anyway. I tried to make my selection a variety as much as I could, so hopefully you find something that you like. My purpose is to cut down you browsing time, you see.
1.) CATERPILLAR SUPERSEDE
This boot is available in colors black and brown. I’ve always trusted the CAT brand. I’ve known it to be a brand that lasts for years. There’s a microfiber lining that allows the shoes to be more breathable, and also an microfiber sock liner to provide more comfort for the user all day long. Inside you will be able to see EASE mid sole which serves to provide an added protection against shock and also for additional support. For it’s out-sole, you’d notice that it was made from molded rubber.
It weighs about 1 lb 12 oz, and it’s shaft is 5 1/2 inches.
2.) SKECHER’S WORK CRANKTON
It may look like your average rubber shoes for teens, it really isn’t really so.
I don’t know if you noticed but the shoe has a padded tongue and collar which gives the user a great comfy feeling from the moment she’s about to use the shoe. There’s a soft fabric lining inside that provides a more comfortable fit. There’s also the traditional lacing for that secure fit. Turn the shoe around and you will be able to see a protective synthetic toe and heal bumpers.
3.) TIMBERLAND PRO 6″
Three words can successfully describe this boots; safe, tough, and comfortable. This shoe is made with the purpose of welding in mind. It has passed the Electrical Hazard Protection ANSI Z41 PT99 to provide protection to the wearer in case there are open circuits around. The shoe also meets the steel toe requirement ANSI Z41 PT99 and it features a more roomy steel toe compared to most boots to allow a more comfortable fit. The boots has been equipped with a PRO 24/7 Comfort Suspension technology. This technology is a comfort system unique to this shoe, and with this the shoe is able to meet the required comfort for long work hours. 24 hours a day and 7 days a week! The shoe has been proven to help in reducing foot fatigue, support the arch, and cushion every step of the wearer.
Personally, I believe this shoe is going to be a great choice.
4.) KEEN UTILITY DETROIT MID SOFT TOE
This shoe’s profile is made sure to protect and support every inch of your feet. Not to mention that these boots are so easy and comfortable to wear and that is all thanks to Dry-Lex footwear lining with hydrophobic and hydrophilic two-zone comfort technology. Yes, it’s a waterproof shoe and also breathable. There’s what they call the KEEN.DRY membrane that lets the vapor our from the inside but not letting moisture seep back inside.
Of course, there’s a lot more models and brands out there that sell, but I believe that these four are great choices if you have no idea where to start. Remember, to always go with your gut instincts when choosing the shoes for you. What may be right and comfy for your friend, may not work for you. If you are going to shop online, be sure to have the right measurements since you cannot personally try the product. Doing this will somehow ensure that you will buy the correct size for you. Don’t forget to read up on reviews or articles (such as this one) in order to be more knowledgeable about the products you are considering, and thus possibly reducing the feelings of regret when you purchased the wrong product for you. However, if there are shops around your city or town which sells shoes, it is always a great decision to personally go to the store and fit the shoes. Whatever you choose to do, I hope you find the right shoe for you since it will take you to places. 😉
