Having an auto darkening welding helmet is a great thing! If you compare it to a manual welding helmet, the auto darkening welding helmet requires minimal effort. Here is a review about it:

“I’ve got six welding helmets, five of which are Jackson. I normally purchase helmets at a local store so I could test them out first, but this one I got without viewing first, and so far I’m very impressed. This one is more mid-range, which I plan to keep in my van… I have other helmets that range from a fraction of the price of this helmet to more then double.

For the price, it’s an excellent helmet… auto-dimming works great. I’ve used it for nearly two hours the first day I got it, and it worked perfectly. Very comfortable… quickly and easily readjusts to any size needed, and various positions. The display below the lens is very nice, showing all the settings in one glance.

Overall, this is a very comfortable helmet and works well, however it’s not my favorite among the Jackson helmets I own. First, the shell of the helmet is thinner and more flexible then any helmet I’ve owned. At first, I wasn’t sure if this was a pro or a con, and during normal usage, I didn’t notice the flexibility at all. However, at all other times such as picking it up, putting it on, carrying it, etc, I really don’t like the flimsy feel of it. It doesn’t affect the function of the helmet and is more of a personally preference, but it makes the helmet feel cheap.

Second, the display under the lens cannot be seen at a steep angle above the display… this means I can’t see the display without lifting the helmet up, despite having a nice backlight on it. If they angled it just a bit, it would have been fine. Again, a minor complain since I don’t deal with the display that often.

Overall, a couple of minor complaints don’t distract from the fact that this is an exceptional helmet. Works perfectly, and very adjustable.” – Steve

Here is a review about it:

“Nice helmet for arc welding. No flash so far, good protection and adjustability. But as the instructions clearly state, it is not for oxy processes. The light state is too light (shade 4 or slightly less) to really be pleasant, and the dark state (minimum shade 9 or more) is way too dark–you really need a shade 5, which this helmet cannot do. Plus oxy processes tend to make it flash from light to dark intermittently, which is extremely distracting. But when used for arc, it is great. I saved some money by purchasing this plus a shade 5 visor/face shield for oxy (instead of a $300 helmet that does both)–and if you do not do oxy, this helmet alone is all you need.” – RW

The average rating of this helmet is currently at 4.6 stars out of 5 stars.
